Anansi is a figure from African Mythology who is known to be a story teller, but also a trickster who is able to use his intelligence to outsmart those around him.

He is a teller of stories that show people how to survive and how to overcome adversity whilst giving lessons in morality and social values. Anansi takes the form of a spider, but he can change his form to suit his needs. He is a cunning, complex, and interesting figure.

Originating amongst the stories of the Ashanti people of Ghana in west Africa, Anansi is a complex and interesting figure in the world of mythology, and as such stories can be found about him in a myriad of paces across the world. Some figures from mythology are unheard of outside of the areas where they originate from, but Anansi is one of the figures who crossed into mainstream knowledge. Mostly depicted as a spider figure, with the face of a man, Anansi has many roles – a teacher of tradition, a trickster, and a storyteller being amongst them. Although his most common form is the spider, he is not restricted to this and he can alter his appearance to suit his needs, which are often influencing and deceiving humans who he often walks amongst in disguise. Anansi is related to other tricksters from Africa – Nden-Bobo a spider from Cameroon and Kamba a tortoise from Central Africa. So, let us look at the mysterious, story teller Anansi!
