Jatayu is a demi-god who takes the form of an eagle, although in some stories he is described as a vulture. He can be found in the Hindu epic Ramaya, and he is the sworn protector of Sita, the wife of Rama. Jatayu is not ordinary sized eagle; it is said that when in flight his wings would cover an entire town in darkness! He is a divine being, whose strength and power are a thing of legend.
