Killer of Children
Killer of Children
The stories surrounding Lamia are taken from Greek mythology, meaning they are found in the areas of Greece, Mesopotamia, and the Ancient Near East. There are many different, and often contradictory stories relating to Lamia, and there is no consistency as to where she originates and how her story began. All we can do, is look at each story and take from it what we can. As with all stories from legends, the truth has often been lost to the sands of time.
Lamia is mostly described as an evil creature who is the epitome of beauty from the waist up, but from the waist down she has the appearance of a serpent whose scales shimmer as she moves and enchant anyone who watches them for too long. Lamia’s most defining feature may be her eyes, which it is said she can remove from her face whenever she wishes. Her eyes can lure people in with the promises of everything they could possibly desire, but all that awaits the person is death and destruction. Lamia is a creature used to frighten children as she is a killer, and so is a creature of their worst nightmares.
