Behaviour and what makes the Sigbin so cruel.

The Sigbin is an unpleasant creature by all

accounts and it is a beast that is feared by the local population.

It was said to only leave its lair during Holy Week, but I have

heard many tales of the Sigbin leaving its lair whenever it feels

the need to hunt.

The victim of choice for the sigbin are children. The locals who

believe that there may be a sigbin in the area, will ensure that

their children are safe inside their houses once darkness falls.

If a child is unfortunate enough to be outside when a sigbin is

in the area, it will be killed by the beast for its heart. 

The sigbin, it is said, will kill children to make amulets made

from the hearts of children to wear around its neck. This is

horrific and if I had not lived the life that I do, I would have put

this down to a story that parents use to scare their young ones

into behaving. However, I have seen things that still haunt my

dreams and so I can believe this to be true. 

I have heard tell that there are families who are known as

‘sigbinan’ and they have the ability to control the creature.

They keep the sigbin imprisoned in a clay jar. It is important to

note that the pot MUST be made of clay, no other pot can

contain the beast. Once a person has control of a sigbin, it will

obey them completely and can be used to punish their enemies

by sending the Sigbin to attack the children of their

competitors or anyone who has done the family wrong.
